Introduction:
Excel is a product from Microsoft Corporation. It will come
along with MS Office package. It is also available separately. It is working in
Windows Platform. Also available in Android. Basically, it is a spreadsheet, with
cells arranged in Matrix (Columns & Rows). Each cell will act like a
calculator and show results instantly. Also, it can store the data for further
calculations.
It can be linked with other Databases to fetch data from them and analyze and show the desirable results. So that we can make strong Decisions.
Usage

Excel is easy to learn software. It can be used for day to
day personal data usage to small industries enterprise data management.
Open/Close
It is similar to other applications. Click the Excel Icon to
open the MS Excel application, then select Open Option to browse and open the
already saved workbooks. Click on close button to close the Excel sheet. Ctrl +
F4 will close the currently opened work book. But the Base Excel Software will
kept open. Alt+F4 will close the currently opened workbook along with the
entire excel.
New
Workbook
After opening Excel application there will be empty excel
will get opened. That can be saved as new workbook. Further select the File à New option , It will show some
templates. Select on “Blank work book” to star fresh Excel. Or select suitable
Template based on your requirement
Save
After creating Excel work book, Select Save button to save the work book. There are multiple options to save the workbook. The main type as follows
Excel Workbook(*.xlsx) – Excel workbook with all data stored and format will be retained as is. It will be default format
Excel Macro Enabled Workbook (*.xlsm) – If any macro used in excel workbook, it will also be saved.
Excel Binary workbook(*.xlsb) - It is also same as Excel Workbook. If there as large amount of data , it can be compressed. So that the file size will be small. Easily send via email. But Commonly available Excel viewers can’t be used to view this files.
Excel 97-2003 Workbook (*.xls) – It will save the book, capable of opening in earlier version of Excel (97-2003). Some of the formats/Colours will not get saved as is.
XML Data (*.xml) – Extensible Markup Language – It is used to link the current excel workbook with a XML data source
Single file web Page (*.mht,*.mhtml) – It will save excel file into webpage (Single file). So it can be opened in any web browser.
Web Page (*.htm, *.html) – It will save excel file into webpage (Single file). So it can be opened in any web browser.
Excel Template (*.xltx) – Store as custom office template. While creating new excel file, select Fileà Newà PERSONAL , From there you can select the customised templates.
The Template files will be available in Documents\Custom Office Templates
Excel Macro-Enabled Template(*.xltm) – Store as custom office template with macro enabled.
Excel 97-2003 Template (*.xlt) – Store as custom office template that can be used in Excel 97-2003 version.
Text (Tab delimited)(*.txt) – Store the data of the excel file into text format, which can be opened in Notepad. But the formats, Colours, Graphs will not get saved
XML Spreasheet2003(*.xml) - Extensible Markup Language – It is used to link the current excel workbook with a XML data source
Microsoft Excel 5.0/95 Workbook(*.xls) - It will save the book, capable of opening in earlier version of Excel (97-2003). Some of the formats/Colours will not get saved as is.
CSV (Comma Delimited) (*.CSV) - Store the data of the excel file into text format, which can be opened in Notepad. But the formats, Colours, Graphs will not get saved
Formatted Text (Space delimited) (*.prn) - Store the data of the excel file into text format, which can be opened in Notepad. But the formats, Colours, Graphs will not get saved
Text (Macintosh)(*.txt) - Store the data of the excel file into text format, which can be opened in Notepad. But the formats, Colours, Graphs will not get saved
Text (MS-DOS)(*.txt) - Store the data of the excel file into text format, which can be opened in Notepad. But the formats, Colours, Graphs will not get saved
CSV(Macintosh)(*.CSV) - Store the data of the excel file into text format, which can be opened in Notepad. But the formats, Colours, Graphs will not get saved
CSV(MS-DOS)(*.CSV) - Store the data of the excel file into text format, which can be opened in Notepad. But the formats, Colours, Graphs will not get saved
DIF (Data Interchange Format)(*.dif) – It is also text format, But can be used between different type of spreadsheet programs. formats, Colours, Graphs will not get saved
SYLK (Symbolic Link)(*.slk) - It is also text format, But can be used between different type of spreadsheet programs. formats, Colours, Graphs will not get saved
Excel Add-inn (*.xlam) – Save the document as Add-inn excel program. Later it can be added to another Excel workbook to do some automated calculations.

PDF(*.pdf) – save the file into portable document format, so that it can be opened any pdf viewer
XPS Document (*.xps) – It is similar to pdf documents. Can be opened in xps viewer or Browser
Strict Open XML Spreadsheet(*.xlsx) – it is also similar to Excel workbook. It will be a zipped XML format.
OpenDocument Spreadsheet(*.ods) – It is an office application for open source file format.
